Before 1556, a castle belonging to the Lords of Magenheim stood on the site of Brackenheim Castle. Between 1556 and 1559, master builder Martin Berwart, commissioned by Duke Christoph of Württemberg, constructed the three-winged castle. It served as a Württemberg widow's residence and hunting lodge. The castle acquired its present form through master builder Weiss, who oversaw the necessary reconstruction between 1677 and 1685 following a fire in 1670. The west wing and the northern transverse wing were affected by the fire. Later, the property was used as the residence of the chief bailiff and as an administrative seat.
