    As an example of a "late landscape park" at the turn of the 20th century, the urban Poensgenpark is one of the special cultural treasures in the Rhineland. For Ratingen, the 4.5 hectare site reflects an important era in the city's history.
    The park was founded and named after the Düsseldorf industrialist, Kommerzienrat Carl Poensgen (1838-1921), who had acquired the property in 1906 from Moritz Brügelmann.
    Under the renowned garden architect Reinhold Hoemann (1870-1961), the meadow and arable land was transformed into a landscape park based on the English model in 1907. In addition to the Poensgenpark in Ratingen, Hoemann also expanded the spa park in Bad Oeynhuasen (1903), the city park in Plauen (1903) and, together with E. Barth, created the Kaiser Wilhelm Park, now Rheinpark, in Düsseldorf Golzheim (1905) . At the Düsseldorf trade and industry exhibition in 1902, he laid out the first permanent allotment garden in the Rhineland.
    After the park's founder died in 1921, the green oasis experienced an eventful history with different owners until the park was finally passed into municipal ownership in 1984. Today, the facility, which was part of EUROGA 2002plus and was included in the "Street of Garden Art between Rhine and Maas" in 2007, is very popular.
