Baisha Old Town is a Naxi people settlement, and used to be the political and economic center of Lijiang before the 1400s (Ming Dynasty). It is about 8km north of Lijiang Old Town.
It is less commercialized (as of 2022) than Lijiang and makes for a pleasant visit.
Also a little further north is Yuhu village with the Rock Museum, the former residence of Austian-American geographer and linguist Joseph Rock. Baisha and Yuhu are both located on the route north to Jade Dragon Snow Mountain.
