Lake Vekeri is located just 8 km from Debrecen next to the road leading to Hosszúpályi. z Forest clearing developments in the 1970s were made in several stages. The first step in this development series was the establishment of the Vekeri recreation area. The construction of Lake Vekeri took half a year. The excavated earth from the bed was pulled up to the center of the lake, where an island was formed from it. This island was connected to the mainland with two wooden bridges. The lake was supplied with water through the Kati River. The Kati River was not even a canal with plenty of water back then. The planners were afraid of the occurrence of hydrological "predictions". In other words, the water supply to the reservoir is not stable. The lake and the footbridge were completed by the end of 1974.
