The village of Seyssel has the particularity of being on both banks of the Rhône. The Rhône separating at this precise place the department of Ain with that of Haute Savoie, the village therefore has two churches and two town halls: one for each department! The French administration is already quite complicated, I imagine that with this particularity, it is even more so for the inhabitants of this atypical village.

Watch out in Seyssel, because Seyssel is not just Seyssel: The smaller part to the west of the Rhone belongs to the Ain department and therefore officially part of France. The eastern part of Seyssel belongs to the Haute-Savoie. And according to the prevailing opinion, this has just as little to do with France as Catalonia has to do with Spain. As a result, there is not just one church in Seyssel, no, there are two. There are also two mayors and, of course, two town halls. Anyone who occasionally pays close attention to the road surface while cycling in this region, especially when crossing departmental borders, will be able to spot one or the other graffiti that clearly shows the national borders again.
