The Kreuztor is something special for Ingolstadt. It is a gem that needs to be protected!
It looks fantastic, especially at dusk when the Kreuztor is illuminated.
The Kreuztor (Cross Gate) was built when Ingolstadt was a Bavarian state fortress, and the second defensive ring was built around the city in the 14th and 15th centuries. The name "Schanz" (fortress) for Ingolstadt also originates from this period, as the citizens of Ingolstadt could entrench themselves safely behind the walls. Furthermore, they could spot approaching enemies in time from the mighty octagonal tower that rises behind the gate. The gate is a landmark of Ingolstadt and is considered one of the most beautiful city gates in Germany.
