The Château des Rubins was built during the 14th century. Owned by different noble families until the Revolution, it was not sold as national property, nor destroyed during the Revolution. Spared by the fire of April 19, 1840 which destroyed a large part of the town of Sallanches, it was bought by the town in 1978. Since 1985, it has been known as the center for the interpretation of the natural heritage of the Mont Blanc massif. , the Mountain Nature Centre, CNM, and has enabled nearly 900,000 people to discover the natural riches of the Alps. In addition to the 600 m2 of exhibitions, a wide range of activities is offered: educational activities for schoolchildren, environmental education, field trips, conferences and film debates.
