The Du Castel vineyard was established in the seventies, when Eli Ben Zaken, born in Alexandria, emigrated from Milan to Israel. With his savings, he bought a piece of land near Jerusalem, where he initially raised chickens and grew fruit. The first vineyard was planted in 1988. Four years later, family and friends were invited for the first harvest. The wine was left in barrels imported from France for two years. Currently, the vineyard has six wines in its palette.
Archaeological evidence found in almost every corner of the land leaves no doubt - grapes were grown in these areas and wine was produced here. Even historical sources reveal that the region of Judea has been considered a guilty land since the dawn of our known days ("Judah, praise thy brethren;" Genesis 49). You can count 3,300 years of wine tradition in this area.
