The church of Sant Llorenç de la Muga has been documented since 982 and due to the numerous modifications it underwent in various periods, this Romanesque-style temple, with two naves, a transept and three apses, shows an unusual structure.
The north arm of the transept was replaced in the 12th century by the bell tower. Centuries later, in the 18th century, this same bell tower was enlarged with two new bodies and a new apse was erected at its base. On the west wall, next to the door of the church, there was a small bell tower with a belfry.
