At 205m, the Hungerberg is the highest elevation on the Breitsattel in the Oderwald. There is a memorial stone for a forester there. The ridge is one of the predominant elevations in the northern Harz foothills, which are pushed up by lateral pressure on an underlying salt dome. Some elevations open up, making salt mining, among other things, possible. The edge of the elevation often collapses as it develops when the salt that has come to the surface is washed out and eroded away.
