At the place of the castle there was originally a Slavic ring wall. In the 13th century, a moated castle was built there, which was demolished to the ground in 1538 to build the Renaissance castle. From 1860 to 1870 it was rebuilt in its current form. It housed the Institute of Agriculture in the GDR. Today it is also used for weddings and cultural events. There is also a home room there.
