The historic town of Dinant lies where the Meuse once divided the rocks of the Ardenne and left a ravine behind. Historically, because the city was once part of the Holy Roman Empire of the German Nation and was conquered around 20 times by another world power. Despite a turbulent past, the place with its fantastic location on the Meuse Valley has never lost its beauty. That's why only a few world rulers come to Dinant these days, but water sports enthusiasts and climbing enthusiasts. Vacationers can admire millennia-old rock formations that curve gracefully around the city, or go kayaking along the riverbanks. The most popular sights include the 120 meter citadel and the Norte-Dame collegiate church, which was built in the 13th century. Last but not least, the city also has good taste in music. Jazz is particularly popular here - because the inventor of the saxophone, Adolphe Sax, was born here.
