The parish Gilten was first mentioned in 1242. However, hardly anything can be said about the church at the time. The present church has been gradually built: the oldest part is the Gothic sacristy from the 15th century, which was integrated into the later new building. The elongated choir room was completed after many years of work in 1595. The half-timbered nave is dated to 1766.
Striking is the massive church tower with its masonry of regional turf ironstone and its green bronze tip, which is widely visible with its height of 43 meters.
Unique is the floor in the nave: a mosaic of linen pebbles, which has been designed by the famous artist Siegfried Steege in elaborate detail work.
The organ of the company Furtwängler & Hammer was completely re-intoned in 2000 by organ builder Rietsch.

At the moment unfortunately scaffolded and under renovation. But once it's finished, the St. Pauli Church in Gilten is a real gem and always worth a visit
