The unique river landscape, the typical terraced vineyards and the fine-fruited Rieslings and Grüner Veltliners make the Wachau World Heritage Site a jewel and probably the most important Austrian wine-growing region.

It is a World Heritage Site, a feel-good landscape and, with 1,350 hectares, the most famous wine-growing region in Lower Austria - the Wachau.

The narrow valley between Krems and Melk gracefully lines the Danube. Travelers like to stop here and enjoy the unique mixture of nature, culture and world-famous wines.

The grapes thrive particularly well on the characteristic weathered soils and the wine-growing terraces that were planted centuries ago. The cool winds from the highlands of the Waldviertel, in combination with the temperature-regulating effect of the Danube, give the Wachau wines great spice and elegance, and the Pannonian streams from the east give the "Wachau" wines strength and fullness. Riesling is of course known all over the world, but Grüner Veltliner, Neuburger and Gelber Muskateller are also highly valued by connoisseurs.
