The Bois d'Ailly was the scene of fierce fighting from April to May 1915. La Tranchée de la Soif testifies to the suffering of Commander André's men who were forced to surrender to the Germans on May 22, 1915, after holding out for 3 days when they were isolated, bombed and treated without food and water.

Numerous regimental monuments and trenches line the forest path between the forests of Ailly and Marbotte.
