Even today, a cast-iron lettering at the old castle - which was built in 1873/74 - refers to the manufacturer family Wagenführ von Arnim - in whose possession the New Castle was - and thus to better times. Until 1945, the building served as a family residence, later followed by the use as a military hospital, rest home and sanatorium for tuberculosis diseases. In GDR times, the district polyclinic was housed in the building. Until the closure in 1996, it housed a nursing home. In the mid-nineties, the district of Stendal - which until then owned the property - sold the building.

In 2012, the former castle was offered for sale again by a real estate company from Magdeburg. For 270,000 euros you would have the contract in an Internet auction portal.

The same day, as the Altmark newspaper reported, the offer disappeared from the Internet. The provisional preservation and security measures are still carried out by the city, which also used the building for marriages or exhibitions. To this day, all usage concepts failed - be it as a hotel or a senior citizens' center.

The cast-iron pavilion in the city park was produced by the nearby ironworks and exhibited at the Paris World's Fair in 1889. Today, this still perched proudly in painterly scenery and is now and then redeveloped, or prepared.

Old, representative building, as is the case with the castles...

At the time of our tour, the renovation work was still in progress. Built in 1873 by the Wagenfuhr von Arnim family, they lived in the castle until 1945. The industrialist family Wagenfuhr von Arnim ran the iron and steel works in Tangerhütte.
