This historic ice cellar was built around 1500 together with a wall and moat as part of the city fortifications of Anholt. The client was the then Mr. von Anholt, Count Jakob von Bronckhorst. The ice cellar also served as the foundation for a watchtower.

This historic ice house was built around 1500 along with a wall and moat as part of Anholt's city fortifications. The customer was the then Lord of Anholt, Count Jakob von Bronckhorst. The ice cellar also served as the foundation for a watchtower. It is questionable whether ice was ever stored in the long corridor with the lower room at the end, because the facility seems to be too complex to be built just for storing ice.
