Today hikers asked me the way to the Heegkopfsee. They stood right at the entrance. In the meantime, however, the lake has grown so overgrown that people who are unfamiliar with the area can hardly find it.

The Heegkopf is already a typical for the Rhön basalt cone. This also means that it is therefore a former volcano. At several points in the Rhön, the basalt was formerly mined. What has remained after mining is the small basalt lake.
