In 1958 and in two years of construction, the German Democratic Republic (GDR) established its own military airfield on the site of the former railway pioneers in Sperenberg (Teltow-Fläming district), which has existed since about 1880. Previously, the Soviet forces had used the airfield Berlin-Schoenefeld. Before 1945, the airfield belonged to the nearby High Command of the Wehrmacht (OKW) in Wünsdorf.

Here was actually the only tricky part of my visit to the airport and the barracks. To get out again I had to make a detour through a hole in the wall
