Sagunto Castle stretches for almost a kilometer. It bears witness to the times and the different civilizations that have inhabited it: Romans, Visigoths, Arabs and Christians. Due to its historical importance, the building was placed under monument protection in 1931. The fortress has seven courtyards. Of particular note is the parade ground of Santa María Magdalena, the oldest part of the castle. There are remains of the Roman forum, column shafts, columns and a cistern carved into the rock. The remains of the Arab occupation can be found in the Plaza de la Conejera. In the northern corner there is a very old cistern with nine pillars (source: spain.info/de/highlights/burg-sagunto/).

The castle is one of the most impressive monuments in the city. Its architecture has been influenced by several cultures and whose result is worthy of admiration.

The presence of the castle is as old as the origin of the city and the Iberians established their first settlement there (Arse). Traditionally, we talk about the Roman castle, referring to the civilization that has most marked this monument. However, at present, there are few remains of Roman origin in the castle and it is a mosaic of cultures and civilizations (Iberians, Romans, Goths, Arabs).
