Schmidt was destroyed in the 2nd World War 90%. In order to have money for the reconstruction, the inhabitants smuggled coffee from Belgium to Schmidt. The pastor asked the community for financial support for the construction of the destroyed church. This is why it is also called Church St.Mocca.
