It happened around 1860 when the first Taunus hikers joined the Frankfurt gymnastics father and publisher August Ravenstein.
During a Feldberg ascent in 1868, which has now become a habit, he combined the call to found an association.
On a cold winter's day, January 5th, 21 hikers got together early in the morning to take the Homburg Railway, which opened in 1860, to Oberursel and hike the Feldberg from here. At 880 meters
high summit, the Taunus Club was founded together with the then almost sixty-year-old.
For many decades, the hiking maps belonged to the Ravenstein, which had been in existence since 1830
Geographical publishing house and printer among the standard works in this field.
The Taunusklub Oberursel dedicated the first Ravensteinhütte on the Borkenberg to his memory as early as 1900. Today the refuge near the Franzoseneck bears his name.
