The history of this place dates back to the 16th century. Mansion and the associated estate had over time changing owners. Many aristocratic families from Schleswig Holstein are in the land register. Also the dukes of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg belonged to it.

The mansion Carlsburg (or today also Karlsburg) is the most important building within a manor complex with several buildings in the Karlsburg settlement, mentioned as Gereby in 1335 and renamed Karlsberg in 1807. As the center of the former noble estate Gereby (named after the previous settlement), the Carlsberg mansion is one of the main cultural monuments of the municipality of Winnemark in the Schwansen district in northern Schleswig-Holstein. The building, also known as Carlsburg Palace, was owned by the Dukes of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg and is now privately owned.
