La Brévine is characterized by a harsh and relatively humid climate. In winter, a cold air pool forms in the completely enclosed Vallée de la Brévine during nights of radiant heat (clear skies and little to no wind ensure maximum cooling of the ground via radiation). Temperatures often reach −30°C, which earned the place the nickname "Siberia of Switzerland." On January 12, 1987, the lowest temperature ever recorded at an official MeteoSwiss station in Switzerland was recorded at the La Brévine measuring station: −41.8°C.

For the normal period 1991–2020, the annual average temperature is 5.3°C, with the coldest monthly average temperatures recorded in January at −3.5°C and the warmest in July at 14.4°C. On average, around 183 frost days and 36 ice days are expected here. There are an average of 15 to 16 summer days per year, while there is an average of one hot day. The MeteoSwiss measuring station is located at an altitude of 1,050 meters.
