The dark mile is a beech lined section of the B8005 country road west of Clunes. In the 18C, landowner Cameron of Locheil fought alongside Bonnie Prince Charlie but was defeated at Culloden. After that, when he returned to his land, he found that the avenue of beech trees had grown so much that the branches and twigs swallowed up all the daylight.

Unfortunately, it's only on the road, but cars rarely pass by. Beautiful meadows and pastures line the Dark Mile.
