Another icon that has disappeared. Jan Francken from Kalmthout (59) was the last of his kind. For 33 years he was station master in his small station in Heide-Kalmthout. A unique one, because comic book enthusiast Jan was even allowed to create his own Suske en Wiskemuseum – more or less with permission from the NMBS. Closed at the end of 2021.

At the train station of Heide (Kalmthout) there is a group of statues in memory of the Canadian liberators. The monument was erected in 1998.
