The fountain's rim depicts the stages of the witch trial.

A bubbling copper cauldron, carried by five sinister-looking mythical creatures, is carved into a relief band depicting the stages of the witch trial, from the accusation to the burning at the stake.

The fountain, created by the Bergisch Gladbach artist Walter Jansen, commemorates a gruesome chapter in Odenthal's history:

Belief in witchcraft was widespread among the Odenthal population, and as late as the 17th century, several Odenthal women were accused of witchcraft and executed. This superstition led to Odenthal being popularly nicknamed "Witches' Son," and even today, a broom-riding witch adorns the top of the town hall.
