Tourist infrastructure is a bit rare here. In the direction of Thiershäuser pond I only saw a bench. The next seating group to the north is at "Potsdamer Platz". A protective roof is then on the Höhenweg north of the power line towards Ortalsplatz. On Kirchweg further north-west there is still the seating group at the Leisenberg church ruins. December 2020 I was happy to be able to take a dry break here in the drizzle.

Charcoal burning is an ancient craft that is now – almost – extinct, but in the past it was a decisive factor in the industrialization of entire regions: the blast furnaces of the iron and steel industry, for example, depended on charcoal to reach the operating temperature required for ore smelting. As a result, however, whole areas were once completely deforested by charcoal burning and it is only thanks to later reforestation that forests have emerged again and nature can be seen.

Unfortunately the charcoal burner's hut is no longer there (see picture), hopefully it will be rebuilt (as of 23.05.24)
