The La Coubre Lighthouse is located in the town of La Tremblade, at the northern end of the Gironde Estuary.
This sentinel of the sea plays a fundamental role for maritime traffic in this turbulent part of the coast.
The La Coubre Lighthouse has monitored the Gironde Estuary since 1905 and also indicates the presence of dangerous sandbanks, which have caused the sinking of several ships.
It is the highest lighthouse on the Charentaise coast and one of the most powerful in France.
Built in 1904 and put into service on October 1, 1905, it is the 3rd of the La Coubre Lighthouses.
