The Igreja do Carmo and the Igreja dos Carmelitas, on the corner of Praça de Carlos Alberto and Rua do Carmo, are two Porto churches that are located almost next to each other.
Built between 1756 and 1768, it evidently contrasts, due to its exuberance and majesty, with the nearby Carmelite Church. It is worth highlighting the large Panel of tiles designed by the Italian Silvestre Silvestri and covering the entire side facade.
Two churches next to each other The two churches of the Carmelite Order, Igreja dos Carmelitas (from 1628) and Igreja do Carmo (from 1750/60s), are two complete contrasts from two centuries ago. While everything in the older church is simply furnished, the younger church has a pretty late baroque façade with elaborate rococo interiors. It impresses with its completely tiled exterior wall. If you are in Porto, you should definitely visit the churches. It is worth it!
