The quarry pond on the edge of Leipzig offers meadows, paths around the lake, benches and a playground. The lake is not an official bathing water and bathing is at your own risk. Every year in May, the Thekla water festival takes place here. More information: wasserfest-thekla.de.

In 1933/34 a gravel pit was dug on Theklaer Flur for the construction of the motorway. It was redesigned in 1961/72 as a 3.2 hectare Northeast natural swimming pool ("Bagger").
