What looks like a somewhat inconspicuous weir with graffiti-covered houses is actually a central element of Cottbus's future hydraulic engineering: Here, the Spree is deliberately tapped to supply the emerging Cottbus Baltic Sea with water via the Hammergraben.
The intake structure at Lakoma is located directly on the Spree Cycle Path. A short stop is worthwhile – not because of the spectacular scenery, but because it offers a rare insight into current water management projects. The technology is modern, the area is clearly secured, and the information boards (where available) explain their purpose in a surprisingly understandable way.
