The castle sits enthroned on a sandstone cliff high above the city and the Saale. The complex can be seen from afar and looks simply picturesque. You can also visit the castle, which is a museum with several permanent exhibitions, including a witch exhibition.

Bernburg Castle, at the time of the dispute between the Hohenstaufen and the Welfen widow's seat of Countess Eilika, mother of Margrave Albrecht the Bear.
Today it is used as a museum (with mineral collection and torture exhibition). The palace terrace offers a view of the Harz foothills. If you follow the Saale Cycle Path you drive directly below the castle and get an impression of the palace complex.

Great place with nice old town. Well worth seeing and was worth a longer stop on our tour along the Saale.
