The keep of the Episcopio castle was built at the end of the 14th century at the behest of the archbishop of Taranto Giacomo d'Atri, who had also built the walls and the mother church. The original nucleus, with the keep and the eastern sector, was later enlarged and remodeled, with a façade from the Baroque period.

Given to the Municipality by the archbishopric, thanks to the restoration of the early 1980s and other more recent refurbishment interventions, the ancient structure is still a living place, which hosts numerous artistic and cultural events.
