The Illa de l'Aire Lighthouse was inaugurated in the summer of 1860 and during its construction the boat carrying the workers capsized and one of them drowned. When its tower was built, it was the tallest of all the lighthouses on the Balearic Islands, until the Moscarter lighthouse was built in Ibiza in 1977.
