The church of Santa Maria dei Grani, built in 1538 and remodeled in 1809. It is built on the medieval farmhouse of S. Maria de Grana which was held in the 13th century, during the reign of Frederick II, to contribute to the maintenance of the Castle of Oria [1] . Located in the territory of the municipality of Francavilla Fontana on the border with the municipality of Villa Castelli, near the source of the Canale Reale and the Torre dell'Antoglia.

The interior, which has remained unchanged over the centuries [2], is an example of late Lecce Baroque embellished with frescoes depicting the Madonna Odigitria; it has a single portal dominated by a simple circular rose window and a bell tower surmounted by a tympanum. The plan is a Latin cross, with a single nave divided into two barrel vaulted spans with lunettes [3]. The entire architectural complex, which also includes an oven and a stable, is fortified by a high dry stone wall that recalls typical characters of the Murgia countryside.
