Monte Croce and Monte Palanzone are two nearby peaks located in the Lombard Prealps, above the Larian Triangle, between the branches of Lake Como. Both are popular destinations for hikers due to their beauty and the breathtaking views they offer.
Monte Palanzone has an altitude of 1,436 m and is one of the highest peaks in the Larian Triangle. On its summit there is a characteristic pyramidal stone monument. From here you can admire spectacular views ranging from the Alps to Lake Como and the Po Valley. Access is possible from several points. From Canzo, the path is challenging and has a difference in altitude of about 800 m, with a travel time of about 3 hours. From Pian del Tivano, the route is easier and shorter, with a duration of about 1.5 hours. This excursion is suitable for medium-level hikers, although some sections require attention due to the difference in altitude.
Monte Croce, at 1,350 m, is less well-known than Palanzone, but equally fascinating. It offers a quiet route surrounded by greenery and is located a short distance from Palanzone, often being included in itineraries that touch both peaks. Access is possible from Rezzago or Asso, with easy paths that connect it to Palanzone. It is possible to create a loop that touches both peaks.
The main activities include excursions, ideal for half-day or full-day treks. Nearby is the Rifugio Riella, at 1,275 m, an excellent base for those visiting the area. It is advisable to wear suitable trekking shoes and bring water and a snack. The best time to visit these peaks is in spring or autumn, to avoid the summer heat.
