The Kærgård Klitplantage at Henne Strand is a unique nature area that impresses in every season. Between the tamed dunes you can see the remains of an enormous oak grove that was once widespread throughout western Jutland. We met the local nature and culture mediator Merete Vigen to talk about the silted oak trees and the special story that is linked to the trees fighting the sand.
"The term 'sanded oaks' comes from the fact that the area once consisted of old oak trees that were slowly covered by sand during the strong sand drift that raged on the North Sea coast for centuries," says Merete.
Løvklitten (leaf dune in English) has something fairytale-like about it. The oak grove spreads out over the landscape like a heavy blanket. It is low but of varying height due to the undulating dune landscape. However, if you look beneath the surface, a completely different story emerges. Lay here
