Village bridge, Andermatt
During the stagecoach era, which lasted from 1830 to 1882, between 60,000 and 80,000 people traveled over the Gotthard every year. The square around the village bridge was then the hub and center of Andermatt. Imagine the busy activity in the few square meters. The stagecoaches used to stop here before tackling the Gotthard. The passengers were served a warm meal at the Hotel 3 Könige & Post while the postilion replaced the exhausted horses. There was often little time for their own food, so according to stories it was not uncommon for the postillions to cool down the soup that was too hot with wine

There are great restaurants on both sides of the Reuss Bridge: River house, Sternen, 3 Könige, Spycher. Nobody has to starve or die of thirst here. And the gurgling of the Reuss always offers entertainment and variety.
