Its full name is the Church of Nuestra Señora de las Angustias, and it is located in the town of Villarrasa, a small town in Huelva with barely 2,300 inhabitants, on the street to which it has given the same name, Calle Angustias. This architectural work has participated in the filming of Western movies in which actors such as Mario Girotti, better known as Terence Hill, have acted.
It is an architectural construction from the 16th century that takes advantage of the foundations of previous buildings, the oldest part being the central nave. In later centuries the rest of the work was completed, incorporating Renaissance and Baroque elements, mainly on the façade, cornices, dome and dressing room.
Inside, it preserves a carving of Ntra. Sra. De las Angustias, a piety sculpted by Castillo Lastrucci in 1948, which replaces the one lost in 1936. Currently the church is also the headquarters of the Brotherhood of the Holy Christ of Goodness, which It constitutes one of the most emblematic images of the town of Villarrasa along with La Borriquita.
This is one of the few buildings in the town of Villarrasa that remained standing after the famous earthquake in Lisbon that hit practically the entire province of Huelva, leaving everything demolished in its path. In 2009 it underwent restoration work due to its poor condition, and that is why its external appearance has changed due to the color of the paint used and the brick reinforcements.
