The very pretty Breton medieval town of Dinan is located on the banks of the La Rance river and is made up of an upper town and a lower town. The latter is also the port of the city. The two parts are connected by cobbled streets. Sea boats can come and take shelter in its port in the event of strong storms, because Dinan is located well inland.

One of the oldest depictions of the city of Dinan can be found on the famous tapestry of Bayeux: it shows the city during the siege by the troops of Guillaume le Conquérant in 1065.
To this day, the city consists of two parts, from the upper town characterized by narrow streets, numerous half-timbered houses and defensive walls, as well as the harbor below, on the banks of the Rance. Both connect the steep, cobblestone Rue du Jerzual.
If you want to explore the city by bike, it is recommended, not least because of the steep ascent, to start at the top. In the old town streets, however, one is far better on foot.
