The Hohendeicher lake in the southeast of Hamburg was built in February 1962 after the catastrophic flood and received by gravel and Kleiabbau for the construction of the new flood protection dike 1966 its present appearance.

The lake has a length of 2260 m, a width of 440 m and is 19 m deep. The Hohendeicher lake is also called simply "Oortkaten", because it is located next to the homonymous village. On the eastern shore there are permanent parking spaces for caravans. The western and south-eastern shores are used by bathers, divers and surfers.
