Tourist information as well as a research facility dedicated to educating the public about cassowaries.

Dubbed the Dinosaur Bird, cassowaries have a prominent Ridge on their heads and sharp spurs, giving them an almost Jurassic appearance. Males raise their young instead of the females, and as frugivores, they are crucial for seed dispersal, which is done through their scat.

Despite a reputation as the most dangerous bird, in reality cassowaries are solitary, shy creatures. In fact, the biggest threats to cassowaries are humans and motor vehicles. All over Mission Beach are cassowary crossing signs and warnings for cars to slow down.
