The Evangelical Lutheran St. Mary's Church in Basthorst bears the name of the Virgin Mary and was formerly a pilgrimage site dedicated to the Holy Body; significant annual fairs were held there twice a year.
The old St. Mary's Church was first mentioned in 1319, but it was demolished in 1856 due to its dilapidated condition.
The current church was redesigned and built between 1857 and 1859 with considerable financial contributions from the estate and the four villages belonging to the parish.
A beautiful, old Feldstein- / brick church, very well maintained, with surrounding Gottesacker. Originally belonging to the estate Basthorst, the squire is still the patron saint of the church.
