The gravel of the avenue gives off a white that recalls purity and once you get to the top you dominate the whole landscape below. We are in San Bernardo, the hill of Bastia, where the Partisan Memorial stands, where the name of the fallen is engraved on the white plaques on the large tree-lined avenue.

It is one of the best observation points in the entire Langa and from there you can look east over the hills of Cigliè and Rocca Cigliè. They are small villages, where the ancient agricultural tradition is still almost intact. An authenticity made up of little things, where you can still see the sign of the Middle Ages: the fortresses, the towers, the defenses of a community that inevitably had to find a way to protect itself.

The Bastia Memorial was built between 1947 and 1951. In the churchyard, in the ossuary, the bodies of eight partisans are collected in memory of the fallen of the 1st Alpine Division Group. It is part of a cross-border ecomuseum network "La Memoria della Alpi", part of an interregional project in Italy, France and Switzerland. (from Unione Monregalese)

The construction of the Shrine of St. Bernard dates back to the period 1947/1951. It was built on the highest hill in the area where, at that time, an elementary school and a small chapel stood.
The work was financed with contributions from various organizations but above all thanks to the collaboration of many volunteers. In the churchyard, in the ossuary the bodies of eight partisans are collected and on the tombstones of the path of the Shrine are carved the names of about a thousand fallen in the struggle for liberation who, from September 1943 to April 1945 lost their lives in the Casotto valleys, Corsaglia, Ellero and in all the Langhe.
