        The wetland S'Albufera on Mallorca was declared a nature reserve on January 28, 1988 (Decree 4/1988). In addition, S'Albufera is a wetland of international importance under the Ramsar Convention and, as a Bird Sanctuary (SPA) and Special Protection Area (SAC), is part of the EU's Natura 2000 network.

        S'Albufera is the largest and most important wetland of the Balearic Islands with its 1,646.48 hectares. It is located in the municipality of Muro and Sa Pobla and consists mainly of reeds and march. Its origins go back to antiquity, but extent and characteristics have varied per sea level. Although parts of the grassland are still from the Tertiary, today's wetland originated less than 100,000 years ago. The dunes bordering the sea are more recent and about 10,000 years old.

          General rules apply in the PARC NATURAL DE S'ALBUFERA DE MALLORCA
          Protect the nature and resources that make up this nature reserve. Plants, animals or residues thereof may not be taken.
          Use only the signposted paths, drive slowly with bicycles and observe the signs.
          Bicycles with more than two wheels are not allowed in the park.
          Note the opening hours of the nature park.
          Noise disturbs the animals and also harasses the other park visitors. Behave quietly.
          On the observation post, the consumption of food and drinks is not allowed, picnics within the park are prohibited. Use the tables at "Sa Roca".
          Sporting activities such as jogging, horse riding or mountain biking etc. are not allowed.
          Pets are not allowed in the nature park (especially for dogs).
          In case of violation of the visiting rules, the staff of the park is entitled to withdraw the visitor's permit.
