So-called inversion weather conditions sometimes occur in autumn. This means that cold air stays in the valleys and hollows, while the hills have very mild temperatures even at night. For a year now there has been a "contrast weather station" on the summit of the Undinger Weinstein at an altitude of 825 m above sea level, which is 90 m higher than the Gr. Rinnental station. Up to 15° temperature difference has already been registered in these inversion weather conditions. While in Gr. For example, when -3°C was measured in the Rinnental, it was extremely mild on the mountain at +12°C.

                    The Great Rinnental was formed by the erosive power of water. During the last ice age, meltwater streams flowed over the limestone of the Swabian Alb and dug deep gullies and valleys into the landscape. Over time, these erosion processes have formed the distinctive valley that we see today. The water that flowed over the Alb plateau not only created the Great Rinnental, but also numerous smaller gullies and crevices that crisscross the landscape. These watercourses contributed to the formation of the characteristic limestone formations that are typical of the Swabian Alb.
