With a height of more than 8 meters, a volume of approx. 1400 cubic meters and a weight of 3700 tons, the Dengelstein is one of the largest remaining boulders in the Kemptner forest. He was transported during the high glacial ago about 18,000 years ago by the Iller Glacier probably from Rottachberg to here in the Alpine foothills.
It consists of tertiary conglomerate from the bunks. However, it is only a foundling among thousands, which form the largest known boulder distribution of the northern eastern Alps between Rottachberg and Kraftisried in the Allgäu.
