Due to the terrain in which the town of Rocafort is located, a rocky massif surrounded by landscapes with a lot of stone and little earth, it was believed that this was the reason for the name Rocafort. Later studies ensure that the origin of Rocafort is given by the existence of the castle. Calling a castle Roc comes from the game of chess, in which there are pieces equivalent to fortresses, previously called roques and now towers. In the coat of arms of the lords of Rocafort, and later that of the Sitjars, who were also lords of Rocafort, several roques are represented, as in the current municipal coat of arms. That is why the place name has its origin in the existence of its castle or roc in Catalan, which was once expanded or fortified, that is why a fort was added to Roc, forming Rocafort.
