The Horster Mühle used to belong to the Counts of Holstein-Schaumburg and was a ban mill - this means that all the residents of the surrounding villages had to have their grain ground here. The last grain was ground here in the 1950s. A dirt road next to the mill takes you to the weir, which is still used to generate electricity today.

Before we cross the Rodenberger Aue before Horsten, we reach the Horster mill. In the 16th century it belonged to the Counts of Holstein-Schaumburg and was a ban mill. The residents of the surrounding villages, including even Schöttlingen, were subject to the mill ban, i.e. they had to have their grain ground here. Only in 1852 did the law on the replacement of the ban rights end the compulsory meal. The operation was worthwhile, the Horst mill was the most profitable in the county of Schaumburg at the time. The dirt road on the side takes you behind the water mill and to the weir, which is still used today to generate electricity. Electricity has been produced here since the 1890s. Grain was ground in the mill until the 1950s.
